Redemption: Roundtable Discussion

Adrian Dunn, Lonnie Norwood, Susan Lape

How can music serve as both art and a catalyst for social justice? What is the role of classical music in the era of the Black Lives Matter movement? What is the responsibility for culturally dominant organizations to support change?

Leading up to the HT Virtual Stage premiere of Adrian Dunn's Redemption, Dunn joined in a live virtual conversation about these questions and more. Dunn was joined by Susan Lape, Executive Director of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Lonnie Norwood, Director of African Diasporic Music and Studies at the Chicago Children’s Choir, in this conversation moderated by incoming Chicago Philharmonic Executive Director Terell Johnson.

Redemption, a co-production of Chicago Philharmonic and the Harris Theater, will be streaming exclusively on the HT Virtual Stage June 29 to August 27, 2021.
