A Tale of Two Film Screening + Conversation

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
Hubbard Street Dancer Alysia Johnson and choreographer Rena Butler in A Tale of Two by Rena Butler

From the brilliant minds of co-directors Rena Butler and Talia Koylass, In/Motion and the Harris are proud to screen A Tale of Two (2020). Featuring dancers from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, this film explores what it’s like to grow up in Chicago - a city of many dualities. The work is filled with tension and tenderness, reflecting the vulnerability of youth in a violent world. Dreams amidst despair. Hope amidst hatred. Joy amidst injustice. In a work that speaks powerfully to our present moment, the Hubbard Street Dancers capture both the intimate and the universal.

After the screening, join co-directors Rena Butler and Talia Koylass, HSDC dancer Alysia Johnson, and artist-activist Nathaniel Viets-VanLear of My Block My Hood My City for a conversation about the film, and the power of art and artists in our communities.

Following the discussion, Rena Butler will announce In/Motion’s 2021 awards: The Grand Jury Award and the Social Justice Award. Special thanks to In/Motion 2021 grand jurors Jinqui Guan, Alex Murrull, Antoine Panier, and Sarah C. Prinz.
